The Final Decision is the 37th and final story mission in Infamous 2.

The Mission[]

Introduction[]

Returning to Zeke's Roof with the RFI in hand after testing out Ionic Storm, Cole prepares to use the device to bring down The Beast. Nix shows up with news that the The Beast had just killed all of her pets, Cole then informs everyone present that The Beast is actually somebody from Cole's past, John White, a former member of the NSA who seemingly died after being absorbed by The Ray Sphere, but in reality had instead transformed into the Beast. Cole further explains John's motives stating that the latter is using his powers not to commit "mass murder" as was commonly believed, but rather using them like a Ray Sphere blast activating the powers of everyone who bears the conduit gene, but killing off anyone who does not as a trade off.

Zeke even points this fact out and both he and Nix scoff at Cole telling Zeke that John White has asked Cole to help him activate potential conduits in New Marias.

Nix urges Cole to "do something" about The Beast to which Cole states "[he is]" picking up the RFI and activating it, but as Cole, Nix, and Kuo all find out the painful way, using the RFI to stop The Beast will come at the cost of their very life force being drained.

Though Zeke uses the Amp to knock it out of Cole's hands before it does any serious harm, the near death experience is enough to leave both Cole and Kuo apprehensive about using the RFI to kill the Beast if it means they and seemingly every other conduit will die as a consequence.

Angry that Dr. Wolfe seemingly set him and every other conduit up to die, Cole bickers with Kuo about their deceased ally's true intentions while Zeke takes a look at the malfunctioning RFI after Cole comments that "it wasn't even fully charged".

The group then splinters into two camps with Zeke and Nix preferring that the Beast be stopped no matter what while Cole and, shockingly enough, Kuo are of the opinion that as messy as John White's plan for dealing with the Ray Field Plague is, it may be the only salvation available to humanity with the group having no concrete proof that the RFI will even cure the plague at all.

Faced with his most challenging moral decision, Cole must now make his final decision.

Patron Saint of New Marais[]

Final Decision No Goodbye

Zeke and Cole say goodbye.

Cole decides to activate the RFI, abandoning John's plan and enraging Kuo. Zeke explains that the RFI was damaged and says that it needs to be charged via the substation at the Church. Cole and Nix then have to make their way down to the river into the Gas Works where the main substation is. When they get to the river, Laroche and the rest of the rebels are waiting for them, manning boats to allow Cole a safe passage across, John however makes it to the substation first and destroys it.

Zeke calls Cole and says that there's another substation at Smut Triangle, which Cole and Nix make their way to as The Beast is following, laying waste to all the Rebels and police who make a brave attempt to stop him and buy Cole and Nix time. They eventually reach the substation where Nix charges up the RFI and Cole protects it from The Beast who Cole manages to overpower, Kuo shows up to stop Cole as well but is quickly defeated. Nix, realizing there's not enough time to charge the RFI, sacrifices herself in order to allow Cole enough time to fully charge the RFI and bring an end to the Beast.

After Nix's demise, Cole runs back to the Church and charges the RFI completely, at the same time of fully charging himself.

Fully Charged Hero

Fully Charged

Zeke tells him to turn on the RFI, but Cole decides to defeat the The Beast by himself, which he does and finally succeeds in bringing down the monster. Kuo shows up and explains to Cole that she's afraid of dying, but she then agrees to death. Cole then activates the RFI which kills off most conduits, but cures the rest of the world of the plague caused by the Ray Sphere.

While the citizens of New Marais celebrate their new lease on life, one of them notices an upset Zeke carrying the corpse of Cole and understanding he's the reason humanity continues to live, the group of citizens honor the late conduit's memory by holding a funeral for him even dubbing Cole "the patron saint of New Marais".

The story then ends on Zeke having a second private funeral as he carries his late friend's body in a casket out to sea stating that "there is nobody with more humanity than Cole MacGrath" and an ambiguous lightning bolt from the sky striking said casket.

One in a Thousand[]

The following is based on non-canon content and is not considered to be part of the Infamous continuity.
Villains Plan

Cole, Kuo and John begin their plan

Cole decides to join with Kuo and John in their plan to cure all the conduits of the plague. Zeke and Nix then threaten to hunt and kill Cole if they ever see him again, Cole and Kuo then meet up with John in Gasworks and plan to make their way to the Cathedral where the population is most dense. However, Zeke manages to cut the power of the entire city in order to sabotage their plan. John then amplifies Cole's powers so that he may survive without power.

After a while, Nix shows up with the unpowered RFI and starts to drain John of his powers, Cole then attacks Nix throughout most of the mission as she continually shows up in an attempt to kill John. They eventually make their way to the main Island of New Marais and discover that the Militia have joined forces with the Rebels to bring down Cole. John, incredibly weakened, can barely carry on, so Cole chases Nix to the top of the Church and fights with her one last time.

Nixs Demise

Cole kills Nix

Nix engages Cole at the top of the Church to fight it out, continually she uses the RFI to weaken Cole. Cole eventually knocks her down and finally ends her, along with Zeke, who showed up seconds later to try and bring down Cole as well. Upset at this turn of events, Cole picks up the RFI before John and Kuo join him on the roof of the Cathedral prompting him instead to angrily destroy it for good.

John then surprises Cole by stating in a depressed voice that he is "tired of killing" and that he "should have died a long time ago", but also concedes that if he transferred his powers over to Cole, he would likely see the mission through.

Without hesitation, Cole uses Ionic Drain to gain John's powers, triggering a large blast that activates all potential Conduits of New Marias and the story ends on Cole and his growing Conduit army storming a random city with the citizens there begging for their lives as the new Beast prepares a Ray Sphere Blast even with the odds of new Conduits emerging being only one in a thousand.

Trivia[]

  • In both Karma options, Nix, John and Laroche die.
  • Both Karma options end at the Cathedral.
  • Both Karma options have New Marias without electricity, either to power the substations or because Zeke cut it in an attempt to stop Cole.
  • In this final mission, no matter which Karmic choice is made, Rebels, Police and Militia are seen trying to kill the Beast.
  • After the ending of the mission, only a few Rebels and police are seen, meaning everyone else was wiped out.
  • 15,000 XP is rewarded for completing this mission and if the trophies for both endings have been unlocked, Cole gains access to all powers regardless of the player's karmic alignment.
