Description
Edit
They are small explosive balls of electricity that can stick to enemies and other objects. They are made by charging up a small unit of electricity to critical Mass, thus creating an explosion. These can be very destructive and can harm civilians - or yourself - if you aren't careful. It is one of Cole's most potent attacks and uses up only two Battery Cores. It is very effective against stronger enemies as well as groups of enemies and turret trucks. Acquired during High Ground.
Kessler also possessed this ability, and was able to use the grenades like mines, that would explode only when the target got close enough to cause damage (similar to Cole's Stalker Grenade, but not bouncing like the latter).
Strategy
Edit
The shock grenades are used by Cole MacGrath as a form of thrown explosive weapon. This ability is available early in the game and allows for you to rain explosive balls of electricity down from buildings. It is an excellent alternative to the Lightning Bolt, as Shock Grenades allow for indirect fire against enemies. Grenades are most effective against clusters of enemies or large targets, as the grenades can stick onto them more easily.

Edit
With Good Karma, Cole throws a single, powerful "sticky" grenade. Shock Grenade should used with caution, as its blast radius can injure civilians. At Guardian rank, enemies caught by the blast will be knocked down longer, allowing for more opportunities for more accurate shots with the Lightning bolt as they will be immobile. At Champion rank, the increased blast force and damage makes Shock Grenades even more potent. At Hero rank, Shock Grenade becomes arguably Cole's best attack, as they can bind enemies with Arc Restraint upon detonation. Not only can multiple enemies be potentially taken down efficiently with a single Shock Grenade, but the fact that they are restrained earns Cole some more Good Karma. Cole must still be careful where he throws his grenade, as it can also restrain civilians, granting him Evil Karma.
Evil Karma
Edit
With Evil Karma, Cole should heavily spam Shock Grenades to swiftly eliminate enemies and injure civilians, earning him more Evil Karma. Cole's shock grenades split up into multiple smaller grenades, effectively increasing the area and damage of the explosion tremendously. A single Shock Grenade can divide in up to seven individual grenades, which means that it can deal massive amounts of damage over a wide area. Cole should be careful that he does not throw them too close to himself, or the increased damage of the Shock Grenades might kill him, even when all damage-resistance upgrades are purchased.
Trivia
Edit
- When using Hero Level rank, the Arc Restraint will activate even if the opponent is dead, and still give you a Live Capture Bonus along with the Elimination Bonus.
- It is possible to push Shock Grenades further using Shockwave.
- There are other variations of the shock grenade in inFamous 2 such as Alpha Grenades (standard grenades like in inFamous), Sticky Grenades (Basically Alpha grenades that stick to people and surfaces), and Double Grenades (Alpha Grenades that split in two upon landing).
