Induction Grind was a power utilized by Cole MacGrath in Infamous and Infamous 2. It was first acquired during the mission "The Good Stuff". Using the Grind, Cole could travel across power lines and train tracks at great speed, which was only surpassed by hitching a ride on top of a train in Empire City.

Usage[]

While grinding, Cole could still use his aiming powers. Halfway across a wire, he could also flip around and head back in the other direction. The momentum Cole would gain when seizing contact with a wire at top speed was so great that he would sometimes fly large distances from the end of the wire. Like all of Cole's abilities, the color of the sparks from grinding was influenced by his karma.[1]

If Electric Drain has been upgraded to its second level, Induction Yield, Cole could recharge his battery cores and heal his injuries while grinding along wires, though this ability was not present in Infamous 2. Since it healed Cole and recharged him at the same time, it effectively made him invincible and could prove to be a great asset in large groups of enemies. Cole could also use some of his offensive powers while grinding to unlock stunts.[1][2]

Induction Grind can prove very useful in traversing Empire City and New Marais. Wires can be found attached to buildings and be used to quickly move from building to building, usually without touching the ground. In Infamous 2, there is the addition of vertical wires, allowing for quicker, vertical scaling. In many cases, these vertical wires can give the player a momentum boost, and if used correctly with Static Thrusters, will launch Cole longer distances than normal gliding.

Additional information[]

If Cole jumps after doing an Induction Grind and immediately goes into a Thunder Drop, he will fling forward from the momentum of the grind, allowing the Thunder Drop to take place at a 75-45 degree angle while still building up power, allowing for a stronger-than-usual Thunder Drop if Cole dropped directly down.

In Infamous 2, Cole's speed with Induction Grind is increased with the use of Static Thrusters.

Induction Grind is also available in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, where Cole and Evil Cole grinds on the floor, unlike the games in which wires are required.
